Media

Ittaq is home to a strong media centre where we are proud to support Inuit produced film, photography, television, and digital media. Media projects have been a focus for us and our main activity for the last five years. At Ittaq we have professional staff and equipment to support quality video production, sound production, and editing, and we collaborate with a network of media artists in Nunavut and in the south. In addition to media services, Ittaq is also the Internet service provider for Clyde River.

In our centre we have a professional soundbooth, video/photography/sound equipment, and a video editing suite.  We have collaborated on many media projects. Some examples include television public service announcements for the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health and Social Services and Health Canada, vignettes and mini-documentaries for Natural Resources Canada and the National Aboriginal Health Organization, the Inuktitut language versioning of Wapos Bay, a stop-motion animated family television series airing on APTN, and several documentary films, including Qimmiit: Clash of Two Truths and Nunavut Quest: Race Across Baffin, both with local film production company Piksuk Media. In 2013, Ittaq staff assisted as crew for the IMAX production Wonders of the Arctic. Our media centre has also hosted several video and television training programs for Nunavummiut, including one territorial-wide workshop in March 2009, and a regional workshop in March 2010.

In 2014, our IT and Media Coordinator, Mike Jaypoody, directed Tony: Back from the BrinkTony won Best Feature Documentary at the 2014 Yellowknife International Film Festival.
